Busy as a Bee in Blowing Rock, NC

The hardest thing to do is to Start. That is why there are procrastinators. If Starting were easy no one would make excuses to delay the inevitable. Neil Armstrong would not have needed to say “One small step for Man, One giant leap for Mankind” when he started on his epic walk across the moon with the American flag.

For me the idea of this blog has been looming for months. I have thought about it. I have come up with clever introductory posts time and time again and yet the page has sat idle. Waiting.

I started editing photos from Blowing Rock, NC today. I had the honor of photographing Stella’s wedding among the Blue Ridge Parkway. The venue and ceremony were amazing. However because it was an afternoon wedding, I decided to leave Greer, SC early and drove the 3+ hours up to do a walk about of Blowing Rock’s downtown.

I love doing these little tours when I can. For me it’s a cross between field work and test photography. My goal is to shoot the town from my point of view try new things with the camera and hopefully come away with at least one great shot.

Blowing Rock did not disappoint. If you’ve never been you really should go. It’s a must this time of ;year with the leaves changing. The town is built around a beautiful park and has a quaint Old World Charm. There are bold beautiful touches of color all around town. Statues grace the spaces between well groomed lawns and beds filled with wildflowers. Quaint local shops blend with new favorites. The crowning jewel however isn’t the magnificent architecture of the buildings but the quaint alcoves, alley’s and hidden store fronts you find around the most unusual turns. It’s no wonder the tourists were humming with as much excitement as the bees.
